Philip Ranheim M.D.

Dr. Ranheim

Since 1997 I have combined common sense and innovative treatments for allergies, asthma, environmentally related conditions and illnesses that don’t want to go away. My background has always been broad since I spent the first 18 of my 38 year career in general family practice.

For me the professional transition from general to more specialized care arose in the context of personal illness. After a number of years struggling with worsening migraine headaches, dizziness, allergies, kidney stones, fatigue, and recurrent sinus and lung infections and having seen 12 specialists with no clear answers, I was referred to a physician who specialized in “Environmental Medicine”. With optimal nutrition, fine tuned allergy desensitization, persistent long-term treatment of fungal infection, and environmental controls, he was able to help me regain health, feel a lot better, and embark on a new career in a growing field.

I have gone through two stages of extensive training and board certification processes. Beginning my education in 1964 with undergraduate studies in music and sociology at Pacific Lutheran University, I later developed an interest in healthcare while working with the poor in the Dominican Republic. I graduated with a doctor of medicine degree from the University of Washington Medical School in 1976 before completing a residency in Family Practice through the U of W regional program. From 1996-1999 I went through 3 years of training in my new field: This was required before being named as a Fellow with the American Academy of Environmental Medicine. I am currently certified by the American Board of Family Medicine (ABMS) and the American Board of Environmental Medicine.

I regularly update my practice skills through ongoing studies of both mainstream and integrative medicine.

My dear wife Karen and I have been married for 45 years and have two children and 4 grandchildren. We both regularly participate in activities of our local congregation. We enjoy skiing, boating, music, exercise and being with our family. Karen is a big part of making our medical practice viable and effective: She participates as our allergy nurse and administrator.
